August 2, 2022 - International League (IL) - Worcester Red Sox News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester Red Sox will begin their final two months of regular season play tomorrow (Tuesday) when they host the 1st-place Durham Bulls (Triple-A, Tampa Bay Rays) at Polar Park for the first time in WooSox history. First pitch is at 6:45 p.m. and will start a key 6-game series through next Sunday afternoon. The WooSox are just 3 games behind 1st-place Durham, who is tied with Jacksonville and Lehigh Valley for the top spot in the tight International League East Division race.

Tuesday will be game 100 of Worcester's 150-game schedule. The WooSox have four 6-game homestands remaining during the 2022 season: August 2-7, August 16-21, August 30-September 4, and September 20-25.

With hot August weather predicted for this week, the WooSox have ramped up some of their second half initiatives to help fans beat the heat. The team has added several mobile misting fans throughout the ballpark. These fans have become fan favorites (no pun intended!) since they were introduced on July 4th. The club will increase the number of fans to eight, with misting zones added on the Hanover Deck overlooking left field and in each dugout (to make sure the players remain cool during this anticipated warm weather).

The WooSox have also added three large canopies along the back of the Simply Orthodontics Berm. Tables and chairs have been placed under each canopy to provide fans holding WooSox Loop $9 tickets with a shaded area to sit and relax-all with a great view of the game.

Professional Sports Catering, the team's concessions partner, has ordered extra ice, water, assorted beverages, ice cream, freeze pops, and other summer treats to keep fans cool and refreshed. The team doubled the amount of soft serve ice cream machines in July and created a hand-scooped ice cream stand in the First Base Plaza. Iced coffee and iced tea are available in the air-conditioned Sherwood's Diner on Summit Street. Beantown Betty, the newly-repainted famed amphibious Duck Boat, is a source of shade for fans with any kind of ticket.

Vendors in the stands, introduced to the Polar Park roster July 4th, will continue to patrol the ballpark with drinks and concession items delivered right to your seats.

Speaking of drinks, drink rails along the concourse edge of the seating bowl were lowered last month to allow for better viewing, and brand-new swivel chairs with backs were added in drink rail areas, including in areas for disabled seating. Plexiglass was also installed in front of the drink rails to protect fans seated below. Furthermore, last Friday, large numbers were affixed to the back of all accessible seating so fans who are visually impaired can easily read their seat numbers.

Fans with WooSox Loop tickets have asked for more seating, so red stools have been added at Gate B under the flagpoles in right centerfield, while the perimeter fencing has been lowered to allow fans an unobstructed view.

Last homestand, fans noticed the line-score scoreboard that was on the Worcester Wall in 2021 had been reinstalled to the centerfield side of the new right field video board. A clock and a temperature reading are a part of the line-score board.

This homestand, fans will want to check out new WooSox Marvel Super Hero merchandise inside the team store-just in time for this Sunday's "Marvel's Defenders of the Diamond," when the WooSox will don Black Panther uniforms for their 1:05 p.m. game vs. Durham.

Finally, we remind groups and area businesses that a beautiful new Board Room, fit for meetings, luncheons, and dinners ranging from approximately 10-40 people, has debuted adjacent to the DCU Club. The Board Room is open on both game days and non-game days. Visit PolarPark.com for more details.

Single game tickets to all remaining WooSox home games in 2022 are on sale now at WooSox.com, by phone at (508) 500-8888, or at the Polar Park Ticket Office at 100 Madison Street.
