THE ASSOCIATION for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is holding a seminar on Monday 5 September. Running from 10.00 am until 3.00 pm at the Aviva Building in London, the subject matter will be the Building Safety Act 2022 and the competency pathway and how both might impact practitioners.

Keynote speakers on the day will include representatives from across Government and the fire industry, along with some of the ASFP’s own passive fire protection experts.

Following on from an appraisal of the Building Safety Act and the implications of subsequent secondary legislation, the presentations and ensuing discussions will then move on to how competency requirements will be introduced and managed. Topics will include the latest legislative changes and amendments to product standards, including the creation of safety-critical product groups.

Further, there’s going to be an explanation of the various ways in which passive fire protection professionals can demonstrate their competency.

The seminar offers attendees the opportunity to network with industry professionals, ASFP officers and Association members. Exhibitors will be on hand to discuss their products and services and answer technical queries.

The ASFP was formed in 1975 in recognition of a need to bring together passive fire protection manufacturers, contractors and testing/certification bodies to encourage, develop and give guidance on essential standards in passive fire protection.

The ASFP serves and represents the needs of its members and the wider passive fire protection industry by raising standards and competence through training, testing, certification and quality of installation and maintenance.

The organisation aims to advance knowledge and guidance on all aspects of ‘built-in’ fire protection, deliver technical support and impartial advice, lead on regulatory and behavioural change as an independent authority and also improve competence and quality through training.
