Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia is set to become the first signing of Erik ten Hag’s reign at Manchester United, according to reports.

The 22-year-old left-back enjoyed a very impressive campaign that saw the Eredivisie giants reach the final of the Europa Conference League. Malacia, who can also be deployed at right-back, made 50 appearances for Feyenoord is all competitions, contributing five assists and one goal from full-back.

Initially, Malacia appeared destined to follow Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong through the doors at Old Trafford, after the Reds reportedly agreed a deal.

But as United struggle to get a move for the Dutch maestro over the line, and also come to terms with Cristiano Ronaldo's bombshell news that he allegedly wants to depart the club, Malacia looks set to be the first new signing of the Ten Hag era.

Reports from the BBC understand a deal for Malacia is set to be completed within the next 24 hours. A fee of around £15million will be enough to bring the Netherlands international to Old Trafford.

The new United boss is a huge fan of Malacia, even hinting that he was keen on signing him when he was still the manager of Ajax. "We do think he is a good player, yes," the then Ajax head coach told reporters.

"Is Malacia on our list [of targets]? I'm not going to tell you." This news will a huge boost to Ten Hag, who was also reportedly told that Ronaldo wants to depart Old Trafford, less than one year after he returned to the club.

Ronaldo looked set to be the main man in Ten Hag's United attack, but the Dutch boss may be forced to look for targets elsewhere. Moreover, he has also had to deal with constant set backs in his pursuit of De Jong.

Various reports initially claimed a deal had been struck with the La Liga giants. However, Blaugrana president Joan Laporta poured cold water over those reports by claiming he was not for sale.

“There are many clubs that want him, not just Manchester United,” Laporta recently stated. "We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay. I'm going to do everything to keep Frenkie.”
